With the University of Sydney and the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (of Channel Nine fame) within its borders, it’s not surprising that Camperdown is a thriving Sydney suburb. Just a stone’s throw from the city, Camperdown’s Victorian and Edwardian streetscapes contrast with wide-open green areas.
Gentrified over the last 20 years, many of Camperdown’s terraces have been beautifully redeveloped, always sympathetically to the original architecture. Semi-detached Federation-style homes are also popular, and one of the latest projects on the horizon will transform the former Camperdown Children’s Hospital into a beautifully re-envisioned residential area.
As well as the university and the hospital, Camperdown features plenty of recreational facilities, including Camperdown Park, with its oval and tennis courts. It’s also right next door to the shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes of Newtown and King Street.
