      Rushcutters Bay

      Eastern Suburbs

We love being able to sail away

At only 0.2 km square, tiny Rushcutters Bay is one of Sydney’s smallest suburbs. The area was first known as 'Rush Cutting Bay' because the swampy land was covered in tall rushes, used by early settlers for thatching houses.

Rushcutters Bay was once the location of the famous Sydney Stadium, the site of many boxing matches and the city’s earliest rock and roll concerts. Now it’s the home of many art and design businesses, as well as being the centre of Sydney’s yachting community, a great place to learn to sail. In fact Sydney’s Cruising Yacht Club, at Rushcutters Bay, is the starting place of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.

Rushcutters Bay has some great views, and a number of parks overlooking the harbour and the marina.
