Watsons Bay sits on the end of the South Head peninsula and takes its name from the sheltered bay and anchorage on its western side. Much of the suburb is taken up by parkland, national park, and reserves, with coast-top walks available. Vaucluse Yacht Club Baths fall within the suburb’s boundaries.
Watsons Bay is the home of the Gap, an ocean cliff on the eastern side with spectacular views to Manly, North Head and the Pacific Ocean. It’s also a popular spot for filming, and Watsons Bay as a whole is one of the best spots in Sydney to catch the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
With ferry access to the city and affluence aplenty, Watsons Bay is a much sought-after place to live. It’s got one or two quirks, too, like the nudist beach at Cape Cove, which is also an excellent diving spot.
