Home to the actor Russell Crowe, radio presenter John Laws and singer Delta Goodrem, Woolloomooloo is one the most visually impressive suburbs in Sydney. Its Finger Wharf building is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest wooden structure in the world – 400m long and standing on 3,600 piles.
Dining opportunities range from fine dining on the wharf to a pie from Harry's Cafe de Wheels, an infamous snack-stop and now tourist destination. Known for its naval base, Woolloomooloo is also home to the Art Gallery of NSW and the Andrew "Boy" Charlton Pool, which is always popular with swimmers.
Bordered by the Domain, East Sydney and Kings Cross, Woolloomooloo is close to both the city and the rest of the eastern suburbs. It’s named after the first homestead in the area – Woolloomooloo House – and there’s debate over which Aboriginal word this name originally came from.
